We are proud to welcome our four newest faculty!

Dr. Lynn Mazzoleni (atmospheric/analytical chemistry) earned her PhD at the University of Nevada, Reno, and comes to us from the Los Alamos National Laboratory. “My primary research interests are to identify organic aerosol constituents from a variety of atmospheric environments.”

Dr. Dario Stacchiola (physical chemistry) earned his PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and joins us from the Brookhaven National Laboratory. “Our research interests focus on closing the gap between fundamental chemical studies on simple model surfaces under pristine conditions and complex systems under practical environmental conditions.”

Dr. Jin Chen (organic chemistry) earned her PhD at State University of New York-Stony Brook. She comes to us from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where she served as a postdoctoral scholar. Dr. Chen’s research interests encompass the application of synthetic tools and advanced materials in combination with biochemical and biophysical techniques to address medicinal challenges.

Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari (biochemistry) earned his PhD at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He joins us from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he has held positions as a post-doctoral research fellow, and most recently, a research assistant professor. “We plan to analyze the biochemical and biophysical properties of proteins involved in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, ALS, and prion diseases, which misfold and show intracellular or extracellular aggregates at the end stage of the disease.”

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at Michigan Tech!

Our undergraduate offerings now include degrees in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Cheminformatics, in addition to the basic Chemistry degree. We have a dynamic group of students in our department, many of whom participate in undergraduate research in biochemistry, organic chemistry, computational chemistry, among other topics. We're always looking for future chemists, could you be one? Drop us a line, schedule a visit, or apply to MTU.

The department faculty lead externally funded research groups with about 30 PhD students actively engaged in these projects. There are always several research groups with openings for new graduate students. Apply directly to the MTU Graduate School.

Our new Peace Corps Masters International program offers a degree in Applied Science Education in conjunction with Peace Corps service.

We want to hear from our alumni! Let us know what you're up to, send us a note, come for a visit, or catch up with us at a conference. Link to your colleagues through Alumni Relations.

I invite you to contact me with any questions or feedback.
