MTU Chemistry Undergraduate Advising

All chemistry undergraduate students have a faculty advisor assigned to them based upon the student's year of academic study.

The Advisors for the 2007-2008 school year are:

The department also has two special advisors.
The special advisor for transfer students, double major students, minor students, and other cases is:

Dr. Marshall W. Logue
Office: 610 ChemSci
Phone Number: (906) 487-2910
Email: mwlogue @ mtu.edu

The special advisor for Undergraduate Research/Cooperative Education is:

Dr. Dallas K. Bates
Office: 708A ChemSci
Phone Number: (906) 487-2059
Email: dbates @ mtu.edu

Students typically visit their advisor when they:
  • have a question about their course program
  • have difficulties with courses
  • have course scheduling conflicts
  • are considering undergraduate research either at MTU or at a Research Education for Undergraduate program
  • are wondering about transfer credits
  • are considering applying to graduate schools
  • need to consider various careers
  • need to fill out a preliminary degree audit (Junior year)
  • need to submit a formal degree audit (first semester of Senior year - mandatory)

The best way to contact an advisor is by email or by dropping by their office to set up a suitable time for a meeting.

Students are welcome to visit their advisor as often as needed or consult with other faculty as well. We recommend that students meet with their advisor at least once or twice a year to confirm progress toward the degree. Often students obtain advising information from other students. This is fine and it's good for students to talk over plans with friends. However, we recommend verifying any advising information that you receive from your friends with your advisor to confirm that the information is correct.
